Hey guys

Firstly, I just want to say I'm glad this website was created because I absolutely LOVE this film (it is currently my number one favourite)! So thanks!!!

Now down to business. I was thinking, could Lo-Pans death scene be the finest death scene of all time? I think it may be. It has all the hall marks. It must be the biggest surprise I have ever experienced while watching a movie show down, it has excellent character plays by both Kurt Russell and James Hong, amazing set (those creepy fat statues that spontaneously break after Lo-Pan’s death) and amazing costume (Jack burtons costume… enough said), good suspense music building up to the big statue smash. Then look at the 'hot chicks' that the hero is saving... they are B.E.A. utifal.

And lots more strenghs to that scene.

Any thoughts?

It could be the greatest scene of all time.
  1. There's perfect foreshadowing: Jack catches the bottle after Wang's failed attempt to cut it in half, and he keeps repeating "it's all in the reflexes" throughout the film.
  2. The scene crystallizes everything that is Jack Burton: he's at once a bumbling fool and a superhero.
To those who disagree that this is the best scene ever, I can only say: you leave Jack Burton alone! We are in his debt: he showed great courage.

Now that you mention it, he may well be a SUPERhero (as opposed to a regular hero).

I mean, he may have had paranormal abilities as a result of 'Eggs potion'.

Yeah, but "It's all in the potions" doesn't roll off the tongue as nearly as well. Wink Wink Wink

Jack has awesome reflexes naturally. Couple that with the magic potion from the hollow gord Egg carries around and BAM! Not only can he catch thrown knives, but he can throw them back with enough force to penetrate a human skull!

Awesome scene.

The only thing that takes away from the scene is the edges of the Buddha statue platforms so clearly dropping down. Cool

I mean w/ all the money he paid for special effects, u think John Carpenter could have adjusted the camera angles a bit to avoid seeing what was really making the statues topple over.
