in kung fu there are various hand forms, which i think may have been the inspiration for thier salute, it's pretty much "one finger contemplation".

It's not lame. The little suburban kids trying to flash actual gang signs at each other in the hall, just like they saw on some TV show, that's lame. The Chang Sing sign is forever awesome.

yeah the chang sing sign is pure quality. bet JC knew what it meant, probably "check please" or something like that. seem to remember doing something similar back in school, as well as practicing wang's flying kicks with (on) my friends. he was my inspiration Very Happy

i haven't seen the chang sing sign before, but i do know that the hand sign the 3 storms use to salute lo pan at the end of the burning blades scene is used quite often in chinese kung fu, when i used to take wu shu classes we would do that at the start and end of each lesson and as a greeting when we saw the master.

(oh btw if any of you ever take wu shu don't stick out your thumb when doing that signal, cos it means that you think you are better than the teacher/master, and might result in you getting sent off to the hell where ppl are skinned alive)

It's the famous one finger block from Hung Gar Kung Fu.
That style was invented to support Chinese patriotism and overthrow the Manchu invaders, and so the hand gesture remains something of a symbol of Chinese pride and comraderie.
